Educational Outreach Programs
Opera Fort Collins (OFC) offers a variety of programs for students in schools in and around Fort Collins.
Opera A La Carte- K-5 In this program, OFC works directly with the school to provide an in-class introduction of opera. This is a two-day program where students learn concepts of opera, elements of production, types songs (e.g. aria versus recitative). OFC’s Outreach Coordinator, Jane Haycraft, is classically trained and can provide the class with a live demonstration of opera singing. The students will participate by exploring their voices as well. They will be assigned roles in a mini opera, The Sleeping Princess, or A Heroes Tale, which they can perform in the classroom. The lesson is designed to fit a normal general music class period.
Collaborative After School Musical (C.A.S.M.) In this program, OFC works directly with the classroom music teacher to plan, produce, and perform a mini opera. This is an after-school program for grades 3-8. We have for 3-5th graders The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Red Wings, Pocketful of Dreams, or Heroes. For 6-8th Graders we offer A Pocketful of Dreams, Heroes or Cinderella.
Career Paths- OFC hosted recorded interviews with active artists to share their journey as performers. These recordings are tools that can help students, voice studios, and friends of the opera.
OFC Hosts- OFC created recorded guides on a variety of topics related to classically trained singers wanting a professional career.
