OFC Presents: LA CENERENTOLA

by Giaocchino Rossini

LA CENERENTOLA Rossini’s setting of the Cinderella story is special because it depends not on a fairy godmother, but on the strength and determination of the central character, Angelina (Cinderella). The fairy godmother is replaced by a wise old tutor, and the wicked stepmother replaced by an overbearing and selfish stepfather. The magic in this opera is in the music: glorious melodies and vocal fireworks. Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Megan Marino (the adorable Rosina in Opera Fort Collins’ The Barber of Seville) returns, with Santa Fe Opera colleague Jack Swanson, tenor.

Opera length: Three Hours (with 20 minute intermission).
